Betrayal by Danielle Hardgrave (Sea Assassins #1)

My rating:

Written by: Danielle Hardgrave
Series:  Sea Assassins #1
Print Length: 209 pages
Publisher: Caldwell Publishing
Publication Date: January 20, 2017
Genre: Shifter Romantic Fantasy

On a calm November evening, a ship disappears off the coast of Washington without a trace...

When Darcy Davies finds a handsome man washed up on the beach, he’s three things: injured, naked, and rude. And he’s got a few demands. Somewhere safe. No hospital.

Tell no one.

While Darcy takes him in, she’s no fool. She knows he was involved in whatever happened at sea that night. But is he a victim or a villain? One thing’s for certain—even if he’s not a danger to her person, this sexy stranger is a danger to her heart.

Gabriel Barnes can’t tell which is more of a pain in his side—the curvy brunette who plucked him off the beach, or the literal pain in his side.

Gabriel's secret will be hard to keep in such close quarters, especially with injuries that are healing much too fast. But he's got bigger problems.

It wasn't an accident that brought him here.

It was a betrayal.

Betrayal (Sea Assassins, #1)Betrayal by Danielle Hardgrave

While walking her dog in the morning, Darcy discovers a man on the beach, cut up and naked. She wants to get him medical help but he refuses asking that she hide him in her home while he recuperates. Being short on cash for her sisters college tuition, Darcy agrees to let Gabriel staying with her. Which she quickly questions because they get on like water and oil.

Darcy is concerned by Gabriel's need to be hidden and why he was left for dead on the beach.

Meanwhile, a somewhat friend/neighbor, Nate gets very stalkerish and a boat disappears without a trace. Somehow, Darcy knows it is all connected. She just has to figure it out before she becomes a victim.

The story starts out pretty strong, keeping my attention but then it stalled. I don’t know if it was the 3rd person narrative or I just became detached from the characters and their plights. Then at the very end there is a really interesting plot twist that made reignited my enthusiasm for the series but I don’t think the next book is going to be Gabriel and Darcy’s story.

You’ve got the three e’s, Easy, enjoyable and entertaining.

Good story, a little rushed.

I received this ARC copy of Betrayal from Danielle Hardgrave. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Pulse: The Trial by R. A. Crawford

PULSE: The Trial

My Rating:

Written by: R.A. Crawford
Print Length: 215 pages
Publisher: Winlock Press
Publication Date: December 11, 2016
Genre: Military SciFI

Forty of Earth's most dangerous women compete to become warriors in the interstellar empire known as PULSE. They must endure a Trial on a death-planet filled with monsters and betrayal.

Only three will survive. And the war hasn't even begun.

It's a future like you've never seen before: one populated by amazing (and often unfriendly) aliens and a Humanity that is 100% female. A paradise in some ways, a prison in others, this handful of extraordinary women must fight to stay alive in a brutal universe, enduring an onslaught of deadly challenges, just to join the fight against a star-spanning threat they can scarcely imagine.

THE TRIAL is the first in an action-packed adventure series for all ages, crammed with creatures, combat, courage … and some of the most fascinating new characters you've encountered in years.

Join PULSE! See the universe! You might even survive...

PULSE: The TrialPULSE: The Trial by R.A. Crawford

Crawford delivers a highly imaginative scifi tale of a brutal trial a group of young human woman must face to become a PULSE officer. A PULSE (Planetary Union of Life-form Salvation and Emancipation) officer is a guardian of the female lead galaxy.

Pulse is not for the squeamish or faint hearted, the trials are brutal. If you are also looking for that cute romance or sweet HEA, then Pulse is not the book for you. The tale is dark, with undercurrents of political corruption and bias.

More in the lines of MAZE RUNNER OR HUNGER GAMES, Crawford’s writing visually drops into a harsh world unlike any other, where you watch the contestants die off until only the smartest, strongest and wariest survive.

Although this was a genre I love, PULSE: The Trial wasn't my cup of tea. I appreciated the creativity, world building and premise.

I received this copy of Pulse: The Trial from R. A Crawford in exchange for a honest and voluntary review.

Immortal Unchained by Lyndsay Sands (An Argeneau Novel #25)

Immortal Unchained

Hardcover: 304 pages
Publisher: Avon
Publication Date: March 28, 2017
ISBN-10: 0062660195
ISBN-13: 978-0062660190
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Barnes & Noble:

Ever since Domitian Argenis recognized Sarita as his life mate, he’s been waiting for the perfect moment to claim her. Those fantasies did not include him being chained to a table in a secret lab or both of them being held hostage by a mad scientist. Somehow, they have to escape…

Sarita has seen some crazy things as a cop, but nothing to rival Domitian. A vampire? Seriously? But his healing ability, incredible powers, and their mind-blowing physical connection—none of it should be possible, yet her body knows differently. Now, not only do they have to save each other, but other innocent lives are at stake. Failure is not an option, for Sarita intends that Domitian show her exactly what an eternity of pleasure feels like…

Immortal Unchained (Argeneau, #25)Immortal Unchained by Lynsay Sands

Sands is back with the 25th installment of the Argeneau series and it's still going strong with Immortal Unchained.

Domitian is an ancient vampire that found his life mate when she was still a young human. Instead of claiming her, he decided to give her some time to grow up and live. But did he wait too long? You might think that, when he finds himself chained and in the hands of the mad scientist they’ve (the Argeneaus) been battling for years. To top it off, Sarita is pulled into the labs by nefarious means and is at risk as well.

I do have to say, Sarita is a much bigger person than I, faced with Domitian’s world…and the lab. Being a cop might help her cope with the strange but seriously how much can one person be expected to accept.

Stuck on an isolated island off Venezuela, Sarita and Domitian soon discover the experiments have gone much deeper than anyone had imagined.

Putting the fiery, Sarita and Domitian together was pure genius on Sands part. It's like the perfect sweet, Domitian, and spicy, Sarita sauce.

If you are a paranormal romance fan then Immortal Unchained shouldn’t be missed. You can't help but connect with the action, steaming hot romance, a dash of darkness... It is entertainment reading at its best.

I received this ARC copy of Immortal Unchained from Avon in exchange for a honest review. This book is set for publication March 28, 2017.

Stieg Engstrom, Angriest Viking Ever, has got big problems. The human Viking Clans of earth are in danger of being obliterated--along with the rest of the world--and the only one who may be able to save them is a super pain-in-the-ass Crow. Most people annoy Stieg, but this is the one woman he really can't stand... Erin Amsel loves being a Crow! Why wouldn't she when the other Viking Clans are so hilariously arrogant and humorless? She's not about to let all that come to an end! She just didn't expect to be shoulder to shoulder in battle with Stieg. Then again, he's so easy to torment--and also kind of cute. With the future of the world riding on them, Stieg knows he'll have to put aside his desperate need to kiss the smirk right off Erin's face. Wait. What? He didn't mean that--did he? No! They have one goal: To conquer the idiots. Because nothing bugs Stieg more than when idiots win. If only he can keep himself from suddenly acting like one...

The Unyielding (Call Of Crows, #3)The Unyielding by Shelly Laurenston

Magic, Mayhem and Anarchy rule but what else would you expect when Laurenston gives us Erin’s story.

Erin is the crazy, off the wall and completely unapologetic, Crow that we’ve come to love and she is coming up against their biggest foe by far, the goddess who is dead set on starting Ragnarok.

Don’t worry she won’t be doing it alone. When the poop hits the fan, everyone is surprised to see Stieg standing by her side…as well as all the other nine clans all come into play.

All I can say is, Laurenston wears her crown well, as the queen of satire, in The Unyielding. Off the wall funny, outrageous characters, exaggerated vice’s and quirks, we get it all and I ate up every morsel of it!

Let us not forget the action, romance and urban fantasy portion of the tale which perfectly balances out the rest. The romance between Stieg and Erin is slow building and more of a friendship that evolves…the perfect kind of romance in my opinion. The action is a roller coaster that flowed throughout the tale, providing that pulse pounding excitement. While Laurenston masterfully twists myths, gods and goddess into this marvelous contemporary urban fantasy you can’t help but devourer.

I received this ARC copy of The Unyielding from Kensington Books. This is my honest and voluntary review. The Unyielding is set for publication March 28, 2017.

Cinderella like you’ve never seen before…

With the threat of the vampire monarchy becoming stronger every day, the Black Lily must take drastic measures. As the leader of the underground resistance, Arabelle concocts the perfect idea to gain the attention of the Glass Tower. Her plan? Attend the vampire prince’s blood ball and kill him. Fortunately for Prince Marius, her assassination goes awry, and Arabelle flees, leaving behind only her dagger.

Marius is desperate to find the woman whose kiss turned into attempted murder, hunting for the mysterious assassin he can’t push out of his mind. But what he uncovers could change the course of his life forever…

The Black Lily (Tales of the Black Lily, #1)The Black Lily by Juliette Cross

There is nothing I love more than a strong female heroine that is smart, witty and can kick butt with the best of them. Cross provides that and so much more with Arabelle, The Black Lily.

Arabelle is a human servant, living under the oppressive rule of the vampires. After years of blood lust attacks, killing hundreds of humans, Arabelle creates The Black Lily persona to help garner support from the peasant human populace. All indications say the ruling vampires are backing the savagery plaguing the humans, pushing Arabelle into action. She takes on a suicide mission to kill the heir to the throne, Marius, at his 100th birthday celebration. The same celebration that Marius is supposed to pick his human concubine.

You guessed it, Marius is irrationally drawn to Arabelle and much to Arabelle’s dismay she is drawn to Marius…but that doesn’t stop her from plunging a knife into him. Marius stop at nothing to find Arabelle and what caused her to take such dire actions…but the deeper Marius investigates the more truths he uncovers about his kind; maybe even someone closer to him than he ever imagined.

I flat out loved The Black Lily. Cross, once again, writes a tale that captures and enraptures. Pulse pounding and heart aching, I was riveted from the get go and that momentum never wavered. I can’t wait to see what Cross will bring us next in this magnificent world she created.
